Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 large | fresh pink or ruby grapefruits | juiced pulp reserved
  • 2 tablespoons | sugar or honey | adjust to taste
  • ½ cup | cold water | or melted ice
  • 2 cups | crushed ice | more as needed

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon | fresh lemon juice | optional for brightness
  • 4 –6 leaves | fresh mint | optional garnish
  • 1 pinch | salt | optional balances bitterness

Equipment

  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Measuring Cups
  • Large mixing bowl or jug
  • Spoon or stirrer
  • Serving glasses

Method

Step 1
  1. Roll the grapefruits gently on a countertop to loosen the juice. Cut them in half and squeeze out the juice into a bowl, keeping some of the pulp for texture.
Step 2
  1. Add sugar or honey to the fresh grapefruit juice. Stir well and taste, adjusting sweetness gradually to balance the natural bitterness.
Step 3
  1. Fill serving glasses with crushed ice. Pour the grapefruit mixture over the ice, then add cold water or melted ice to slightly dilute and smooth the flavor.
Step 4
  1. Stir gently to combine. Garnish with a grapefruit slice or fresh mint if desired. Serve immediately while cold and fresh.

Notes

  • Ruby or pink grapefruit creates a smoother, less bitter flavor than white grapefruit.
  • Always add sweetener slowly—grapefruit strength varies by fruit.
  • Best enjoyed fresh within 24 hours when refrigerated.
  • Avoid if you are on medications known to interact with grapefruit.
