Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Equipment

  • 9x9-inch baking dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Peeler & knife
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them in a large bowl with sugar, flour, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Spread evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, salt, and nutmeg. Cut in cold butter using a fork or pastry cutter until the texture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples without pressing down.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling.
  6. Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Use cold butter for a crisp, crumbly topping — melted butter will make it too soft.
  • You can prepare and freeze the dish unbaked for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven for 10 minutes to revive the crunch.
